Gary Sim’s VHS lecture
Early Vancouver Artists: surviving while being creative.
First, a childhood sketch of Kitsilano by Maud Rees Sherman in 1908, updated in 1915, who
at the time was living at 2285 West 6th Avenue in the heart of Kits.
There’s a private photograph of a young Maud Sherman chasing
butterflies, and then a later watercolour, perhaps from a similar
vantage point as the original sketch actually, it’s Mace Point, Savary Island.
Gary’s talk is
now available online, for anyone who missed out on the occasion in
person. The presentation was packed with a magical mix of fine art, local history, wit,
and insight. This is the product of a lifelong passion and dedication to
collecting, curating, and collaborating in art. It comes with my
highest recommendations. Click the link above, and enjoy!
