A rare architectural illustration showing Rattenbury’s plan for the remodeling of the transitional Hotel Vancouver, between #1 and #2. The plan is dated 1901, and construction began in December of that year, but was only completed in 1905. The rest of the second Hotel Vancouver, designed instead by Francis Swales, was completed in 1916.

This rendering was seen in an early tourist brochure titled Vancouver City, British Columbia, published by T.N. Hibben & Co, (probably some time around 1901-1904), shown at the Vancouver Rare Book, Photograph and Paper Show 2017. Hibben described his store as “The oldest bookstore in British Columbia" on one of his early promotional cards, as seen via SFU.
